India-based cryptocurrency exchange WazirX has announced that it will resume withdrawals of Indian Rupees (INR) starting on August 26, 2024. This phased approach allows users to withdraw up to 66% of their INR balances. Initially, from August 26 to September 8, customers can access 50% of their available INR funds, with the remaining 16% becoming available between September 9 and September 22. The exchange has also reduced withdrawal fees by 60% to help users during this difficult period. However, WazirX did not provide a timeline for the resumption of cryptocurrency withdrawals, citing legal challenges and the significant loss of ERC-20 tokens in a recent hack, which resulted in the theft of approximately $234 million. The exchange is pursuing a legal restructuring process in Singapore to address these challenges and ensure a fair distribution of remaining assets.
