Trump 2024 Campaign Embraces Crypto: Accepts Bitcoin, Ether, and More for Donations
May 21, 2024
Former President Donald Trump, facing multiple criminal cases, announced that his 2024 presidential campaign would accept cryptocurrency donations through a fundraising page launched on May 21. The campaign is utilising Coinbase Commerce to facilitate donations in Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Shiba Inu (SHIB), XRP, USD Coin (USDC), Solana (SOL), and 0x (ZRX). This move aligns with Trump's recent engagement with the crypto sphere, despite his past scepticism towards Bitcoin, which he referred to as "a scam" in 2021. Trump's acceptance of crypto donations contrasts with his stance against central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), as he vowed not to allow their creation in the United States during a January 2024 campaign event.
