Swiss Firm FinalSpark Launches AI Rental Service Using Human Brain Cells as Biocomputers
Aug 17, 2024
Swiss tech company FinalSpark recently launched a unique service allowing researchers to rent access to “biocomputers” made from human brain cells for $500 a month. These biocomputers, created using clumps of brain cells known as organoids, are designed to offer a low-energy, highly efficient alternative to traditional AI models, potentially being up to 100,000 times more energy-efficient. The AI training process involves feeding dopamine as a reward for positive reinforcement and applying electrical signals as negative feedback, mimicking how human neurons learn. However, these organoids have a limited lifespan of about 100 days, after which the AI must be transferred to a new cluster or will cease to function. This innovation hints at a future where biocomputers could play a significant role in AI and even blockchain applications.
