Jul 22, 2024
On July 22, Antonia Perez Hernandez and Nestor Nunez pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with the Forcount cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme, which defrauded investors of $8.4 million between 2017 and 2021. The scheme primarily targeted Spanish-speaking investors, promising significant returns from crypto trading and mining. Another key promoter, Juan Tacuri, had also pleaded guilty earlier, agreeing to forfeit nearly $4 million and properties bought with victim funds. Tacuri's sentencing is scheduled for September 24, while Hernandez and Nunez await their sentencing dates. The Forcount case is part of a broader crackdown on fraudulent crypto schemes by U.S. authorities.
