Ethical hackers Kirill Firsov and Marwan Hachem shared tips on how to protect your crypto from scammers who use tactics like fake conferencing software to steal funds. On July 26, hackers tricked users into downloading malicious software through social engineering, posing as hiring staff from legitimate crypto companies to gain access to wallets and funds. The fake software, Meetly.gg, was discovered to send all critical data and crypto wallet information to external servers controlled by the hackers. These scammers are now planning to rebrand and redeploy their scheme under the new name Meeten.gg. To protect against such threats, the experts suggest:

1)Compartmentalize Devices: Use separate devices for interacting with unknown sources, especially for tasks like potential hiring or investment interactions. This can help isolate any malicious software.

2)Due Diligence: Spend more time researching and getting to know your counterparties. Many attackers use trusted platforms like LinkedIn for their scams.

3)Caution with Software: Be very cautious when someone asks you to install software. Always take a step back and verify the legitimacy of the source.

These precautions can help reduce the risk of falling prey to sophisticated social engineering attacks.
