Ether Staking Frenzy: Ethereum Validator Queue Hits New High Amid Renewed Interest
Feb 12, 2024
The Ethereum network is experiencing a surge in interest from validators seeking to stake their ether (ETH), as evidenced by a substantial increase in the validator entry queue, reaching 7,045, the highest since October 6th, according to ValidatorQueue data. This surge indicates a renewed enthusiasm for staking despite the current yield on staked ether remaining below 4%. Validators stake a minimum of 32 ether to participate in Ethereum's proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, earning rewards similar to interest income from bonds. While the activation queue has spiked, it still lags behind the figures seen after Ethereum's Shapella upgrade in April last year, which allowed for withdrawals of staked ether, thereby reducing risk. Additionally, there was a brief uptick in the waitlist for validators looking to exit in early January following revelations of failed crypto lender Celsius' plans to unstake its entire ether holdings.
