Elon Musk Blames DDoS Attack for Delaying Trump Interview on X Amid Speculation
Aug 14, 2024
Elon Musk claimed that X (formerly Twitter) was hit by a "massive DDoS attack" just as his interview with Donald Trump was about to start on August 12, 2024. The attack allegedly caused a 30-minute delay, frustrating users who struggled to join the livestream. Despite the issues, around 120,000 people managed to tune in. Musk explained that the platform had earlier tested the system with eight million listeners without any problems, leading to speculation about whether a DDoS attack was truly responsible.During the interview, Trump discussed topics like immigration and an alleged attempt on his life, while avoiding any mention of cryptocurrency, despite bets on platforms like Polymarket expecting him to do so. Some cybersecurity sources have cast doubt on the DDoS claim, noting that there were no significant spikes in attack traffic during that time. This situation is reminiscent of technical difficulties X faced during other high-profile political events, such as the launch of Ron DeSantis’s campaign earlier in 2023.
