Argentinian President Javier Milei Seeks Tech Investment in Silicon Valley Tour
May 30, 2024
Argentinian President Javier Milei embarked on a trip to Silicon Valley in California to bolster business relations between Argentina and top tech companies. During his visit, Milei held private meetings with notable figures like Sam Altman of OpenAI and Worldcoin, where he emphasised the potential of a libertarian Argentina. Additionally, Milei is scheduled to meet with Sundar Pichai of Alphabet, Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, Tim Cook of Apple, and various startup and AI entrepreneurs. This marks Milei's fourth visit to the United States since assuming office in December, with a focus on attracting high-tech investment to help alleviate Argentina's economic challenges. Despite facing domestic criticism and scepticism over policy reversals, Milei's engagements with tech leaders aim to bolster his image and promote economic growth. Moreover, Milei is set to attend Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele's inauguration for his second term, following discussions between Argentine and Salvadoran regulators regarding El Salvador's adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender.
