During his speech at the BUIDL Asia conference in Seoul, Vitalik Buterin critiqued the current understanding and depiction of the Metaverse, asserting that it requires a clearer definition to function effectively. Buterin emphasised that the Metaverse should not be confined to virtual reality (VR) alone, as it encompasses a broader concept of a decentralised virtual universe where individuals can engage with immersive social environments using avatars and various technologies such as blockchain, VR, and augmented reality (AR). He highlighted that the current perception of the Metaverse often resembles a mere brand name rather than a comprehensive product, urging for a more holistic integration of different virtual world elements, including crypto, VR, and AI, to realise its full potential.
