Controversial figure Martin Shkreli, infamous for his role in raising the price of a crucial drug overnight, allegedly fell victim to a scam orchestrated by an old acquaintance from prison in a cryptocurrency venture. According to reports, Shkreli gifted 5 million tokens of an upcoming project to the individual, identified as @_d3f4ult, who subsequently dumped the tokens while hyping the unreleased project to his Discord group. This incident has prompted discussions about the risks associated with engaging in cryptocurrency ventures with individuals met in prison. While the outcome of any potential legal action remains uncertain, the incident serves as a cautionary tale in a cryptocurrency market already under scrutiny for fraudulent activities. Shkreli, who has a history of legal troubles, publicly denounced the individual as a scammer, citing wire fraud and emphasising the importance of transparency in such endeavours.
